Different Types of Crochet Hooks

Wooden Hooks

Wooden hooks are usually made of bamboo or artistically dyed wood. These styles of hooks are best for slippery yarn such as ones made of acrylic. Most people don’t opt for wooden hooks as they are more expensive, can snap in half, and can splinter; making them snag on the yarn.

Plastic Hooks

Plastic hooks are usually brightly colored, and most are designed with ergonomical grips. These are popular amongst crocheters as they are inexpensive, lightweight, and work with most yarn types. Some cons for this style of hook are that they sometimes come with sharp ridges at the seams and can snap easily if someone's tension is too tight.

Metal Hooks

Metal hooks are by far the most popular and sought after hooks for a few reasons. The biggest advantage to these hooks is they will not bend or break like wooden or plastic hooks do. Another positive aspect to using this variety is they tend to come with ergonomic handles, like plastic ones do. The only real downside to metal hooks are that they tend to be more expensive.
