Welcome!
You may be wondering, who is the great Fablemonger? Well wonder no longer, dear reader, for I am here to answer your most burning questions. I hail from a land of woods and lakes, steeped in the tradition of fables and fabulous tales. I have traveled far in my search for the greatest adventures, learning not only how they are made, but why they matter. Here not only will we learn the tales I've collected on my travels, but we will investigate them. We will delve into the deep ponds of the unconscious on our search for truth. And maybe, just maybe, we will find the pearl settled in it's oyster far below us, and bring it into the light as the treasure it is.
In particular, we will be looking into myths and fables from three different angles:
- The content of the tale
- The origin of the tale
- The effect of the tale
Why Study Fables?
Fables, folktales, myths, and legends are the crucible of the subconscious. They are the refined gold that comes from the very root of our morality, psycology, and philosophy. When we wish to teach a child of dangers and inspire them to be canny, careful, and kind, we tell them a fairytale. When we wish to warn someone they are indulging in hubris, we impart a myth. When we wish to while away the hours with amusement and interest, we indulge in a tall tale. Stories speak to us, to the deepest parts of our souls. And if we listen hard, we will hear them speak the truth.
