Rainforest
El Yunque National Forest is the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest system, known for its lush greenery, waterfalls, and diverse wildlife. Located in northeastern Puerto Rico, it offers scenic hiking trails, mountain views, and a humid climate that brings frequent rain showers. Visitors can explore everything from easy walking paths to more challenging hikes while experiencing the vibrant ecosystem and peaceful atmosphere of the rainforest. El Yunque has different elevation zones, meaning the environment changes as you go higher—lower areas are warmer and thicker with vegetation, while higher elevations are cooler, windier, and often covered in mist. This creates a variety of habitats all within one forest. The rainforest also plays an important role in Puerto Rico’s water supply, feeding rivers and reservoirs across the island.
