Volunteer Spotlight: Why Sarah Spends Her Saturdays at North Star

“I started volunteering because I love animals, but I stay because of the people,” says Sarah, who has been a dedicated part of our weekend crew for the last six months.

From greeting nervous first-time clients at the door to organizing the stock room and carrying heavy bags of kibble to cars, volunteers like Sarah are the absolute heartbeat of North Star Pet Pantry.

During a typical Saturday shift, Sarah helps distribute over 200 pounds of pet food. But her favorite part of the day isn’t the logistics—it is the relief she sees on people’s faces. “A lot of folks walk in feeling embarrassed that they need help,” Sarah explains. “My goal is to make sure they walk out feeling supported, respected, and part of a community that cares about them.”

We currently have a team of 15 regular volunteers, but as the need in Eagan grows, so does our need for helping hands. Whether you can spare a few hours a month or want to make it a weekly tradition, we have a spot for you.
